CSS ‘Cansei de Ser Sexy’ out July 11th on Sub Pop Records CSS’s ‘Cansei de Ser Sexy’ (Portuguese for ‘Tired of Being Sexy’), is their debut album outside of their native Brazil. It is equal parts rock mantra and throwback into something new, transcending boundaries of genre and geography. It careers full speed into dance territory, into the unknown and untouched, to emerge all hot and bothered with electro-rock. Pretension? Absent. Friction? Probable. They are unpretension: unfinished, exposed, and throwing all they have right at you. It is quick, tightly-wound, unfastened and supreme. Not a sneer but a giggle.
There are six members and all but one is female.
They make art—photography, graphic design, fashion, cinema, music.
Over loose beats and quick programming, this group sings mostly in English—as opposed to their native language of Portuguese—and claims that their scene is not so much their hometown, Sao Paolo but the internet. An album bursting with its own unique squeaks and pops, it is intensely urgent while remaining cohesive. With fully formed lyrics and entirely fragmented lyrics, they have truly arrived.
